Today the fires of hell burn a little brighter

Jerry Falwell has gone to meet his maker and the world's a better place for it. I'd love to hear the words now ringing in dear Jerry's ears -- if only there were a god ... or even karma... until then, we all will be held accountable for the sins of the so-called Moral Majority. Welcome to the nightmare!

The Empire is Naked

The pretend prince in the People's House says that his Iraq war architect didn't do anything which would warrant being fired. Of course, Bush would say such a thing. There's nothing any of his lackey friends can do, no matter how sordid, stupid or corrupt, that will rise to a firing offense in George-BushWorld. I frankly expect the jerk in the White House to give Paul Wolfowitz one of those "Freedom Medals" he passes out to all his incompetent and corrupt pals and associates.

America is naked.
It's not just our would-be 'king' who wears no clothes. We have become, in six short years, the new Uganda of the world. We're naked and the world is laughing at us. Our military is bogged down, crushed and defeated in an unwinnable war.

Our financial house is being propped up, like the house of cards it is, by Saudi despots and shrewed Chinese capitalists -- strictly for their own benefit and only so long as it suits their needs.

We've lost all moral authority, and we've shown the world that we are no different than those sheep-like Germans who allowed Hitler to destroy their country.
Like pre-war Germans, we believe we are a master race, accountable to no one.

Well, a day of accounting is coming and all the histrionic pretend-patriots who blather on about America's might would do well to study history, to see what actually happened in Germany shortly after that country was defeated.

The German death camps were immediately filled with German citizens and soldiers. (Can you say 'Gitmo'?) Millions of German women were viciously and repeatedly raped by the victors, including the 'good boys' in the US military. As you might imagine, the suicide rate among those women was horrific. Some American generals suggested we should turn all of Germany into a slave labor camp.

Fortunately, in the end, a few good American leaders turned those impulses around. We did the honorable thing and helped Germany get back on its feet.

I just hope the enemies we're making today have a few honorable leaders as well.

3.29

By Monday, May 14, the day after Mother's Day, 3,400 American Soldiers will have died in George Bush's voluntary war for the volunteer military. They are dying at the rate of 3.29 per day.

The number of catastrophically wounded American men and women requiring medical air-transport is over 26,000.

For what?
So Halliburton and Dick Cheney can move to Dubai?
So the Repugnican Party can steal votes and place hysterical ideologues like 'Abu' Gonzales and Monica Goodling in charge of corrupting the Justice Department?
So the Congressional members of the Repugnican Party can loot & steal & defraud America without fear?
This is no longer my America.
My America doesn't act like this.
Happy Mother's Day.

Mother's Day Proclamation

Arise, then, women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts,
Whether our baptism be of water or of tears!

Say firmly:
"We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies,
Our husbands will not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause.
Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn
All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience.
We, the women of one country, will be too tender of those of another country
To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs."

From the bosom of the devastated Earth a voice goes up with our own.
It says: "Disarm! Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice."
Blood does not wipe out dishonor, nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of war,
Let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of counsel.

Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace,
Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar,
But of God.

In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask
That a general congress of women without limit of nationality
May be appointed and held at someplace deemed most convenient
And at the earliest period consistent with its objects,
To promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
The amicable settlement of international questions,
The great and general interests of peace.
